What is estate jewelry?

In the vast and glittering realm of jewelry, there’s a category that holds a special allure: estate jewelry. If you’ve ever wondered, “Exactly what is estate jewelry?”—you’re not alone. From rich backstory to unmatched charm, estate jewelry offers a glimpse into bygone eras, encapsulating stories of past lives, loves, and luxuries. Estate jewelry refers to any piece of jewelry which has been pre-owned, regardless of exact age.  The heritage and saga a piece brings with it – its provenance – can dramatically heighten interest and value.

The Madison Collection, which we are exclusively showing, begins in the Georgian Era. Georgian Jewelry (circa 1714 – 1835) spans no less than the reigns of four kings of England (George I, II and III and IV). The Madison collection serves also as a catalogue for the changing, rich history of fine jewelry from Early Georgian, through Victorian, Edwardian, Art Nouveau, Art Deco, Retro, and modern periods.

Why buy estate jewelry?

  1. History. Many estate pieces showcase exceptional craftsmanship that may be hard to find in contemporary jewelry. The intricate details, handmade techniques, and high-quality materials often result in truly one-of-a-kind creations.
  2. Sustainability. Choosing estate jewelry is a sustainable choice, as it reuses beautiful pieces that already exist, reducing the demand for new materials.
  3. Connection. Wearing estate jewelry can evoke emotions and connections to history, family, and personal milestones, symbolizing both love and heritage.
